E koekoe te tūī, e ketekete te kākā, e kūkū te kererū.

The tui chatters, the kākā cackles, the kererū coos

This whakataukī speaks of "It takes a variety of voices to converse in the forest." By evaluating our voices and diverse tunes, then music is created for the future.

This course offers a clear understanding of the concepts of transactional analysis

inclusive of Te Ao Māori world view that can act as aspringboard

for personal growth and professional development.

 Whanaungatanga:

  • Whanaungatanga refers to the building and maintenance of relationships. It involves establishing meaningful, reciprocal connections through cultural respect, connectedness, and engagement. Within this context, individuals understand themselves as part of a collective whole, emphasizing family-like relationships and interconnectedness within the community.

Whakapapa:

  • Another relevant concept is whakapapa, which represents genealogical relationships. It exists at three levels: Whakapapa Atuataka (Cosmic Genealogies), Whakapapa Putaiao (Genealogies of the Natural World), and Whakapapa Tipuna (Ancestral Genealogies). These levels are interconnected, emphasizing the linkages between all things—human, environmental, and celestial. Relationships derive meaning from the complex strata of senior lineage (tuakana) to junior lineage (teina).

Therapeutic Implications: In therapy, relationships for Māori involve the interplay between archetypal entities within a person’s cosmology. Social contacts, interactions, and family influence these relationships. Understanding these complex elements is crucial when working with Māori clients.  Remember, Māori concepts emphasize holistic wellbeing, interconnectedness, and cultural context, which can enrich psychotherapy practices. People who were raised within a cultural context will have embedded into their belief.

TA offers an easy to understand jargon-free language, in fact founder Dr Eric Berne deliberately created it that way. His goal was to create a psychological approach to understanding human behaviours in a way that everyone could understand it, from children to adults, from the boardroom to the shop floor.  This two day course is packed with powerful psychological theory that has the inspiring quality of being easily usable for the newcomer, yet with a level of depth that can intrigue and excite practitioners for a lifetime. Transactional Analysis theories will enrich your dealings with people, groups and understanding of yourself.
